It has been our commitment to grant access to education through scholarships and financial aid, establish partnerships with leading universities worldwide, and innovate in our academic programs, firmly believing that with the right tools, individuals can effectively pursue and achieve their dreams.

Dr. Fernando León García

Dr. Fernando León García has been the President of CETYS University since 2010 and currently serves as the President of the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) for the 2021-2024 period. He holds a Doctorate in Administration and Educational Policy from Stanford University and a degree in Industrial Engineering from CETYS University.

 

Dr. León García has been a driving force behind institutional accreditations by organizations in the United States, including the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), and the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

 

One of his major achievements has been the internationalization of CETYS, leading to one of the highest rates of internationalization for a Mexican institution. He previously served as the President of the International Division at City University of Seattle, overseeing programs, campuses, and partnerships in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

 

Dr. León García is a member of various councils and organizations, including the Association of Governing Boards (AGB), the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), Santander Universia Mexico, the Federation of Mexican Private Higher Education Institutions (FIMPES), the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES), the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), the Center for Internationalization and Global Engagement of the American Council on Education (CIGE-ACE), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC), and the Association of International Educators (NAFSA).

Throughout his professional career, Dr. Fernando León García has held various notable positions in higher education. He served as Co-President in Functions, President of the International Division, and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at City University of Seattle, overseeing programs and extensions in Slovakia, Greece, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Romania, Switzerland, China, Mexico, Canada, and Australia. Prior to this, he was the Academic Vice President of the International Department at the University of Phoenix/Apollo International and the Academic Vice President at CETYS University.

 

Dr. León García holds a Doctorate in Education with a concentration in Administration and Educational Policy from Stanford University. He obtained a Master’s Degree in Education with a specialization in International Educational Development, also from Stanford University. He graduated from CETYS University with a degree in Industrial Engineering and completed his High School studies there as well. Additionally, he was an American Council on Education Fellow in 1998-1999, conducting research at the University of Arizona and California State University Monterey Bay. In 2010, he took part in the Harvard Seminar for New Presidents.

 

Dr. León García was a CONACYT Scholar at Stanford University from 1978 to 1983. He was also a Rotary International Fellow from 1979-1980, a member of the National System of Researchers from 1985-1987 and 1987-1990, and a Scholar at CETYS University from 1971 to 1978.

 

He is a frequent speaker at international congresses and conferences on higher education. He is also a regular contributor in national and international media.
