Luis ‘Abuelo’ Álvarez is warmly welcomed home at CETYS University

CETYS University authorities received the Olympic medalist and Mechanical Engineering student, Luis ‘El Abuelo’ Álvarez Murillo, at the President’s office located on the Mexicali Campus of this institution.

The bronze medalist of the archery mixed team event was received by the President of the CETYS University System, Dr. Fernando León García, the director of the Mexicali campus, Dr. Mario Dipp Nuñez, and the Athletics director of the same campus, Professor Roberto Quintero Mármol Valenzuela.

During the meeting, ‘El Abuelo’ shared his experience at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and on the conquest of one of the four medals that the Mexican delegation obtained during the games. In addition, he talked about his academic plans at CETYS.

“As an institution that encourages and recognizes comprehensive development, CETYS University is very proud that a student-athlete as outstanding as you have managed to reach such a high and distinctive place, winning a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympic Games. Your work is an example to be followed by the student community at CETYS and in our country,” said Dr. León García to the athlete.

 

Luis Álvarez continues his studies at Mexicali Campus, combining them with his sports preparation for competitions in the Archery World Series, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and other international participation.

After the meeting, the archer received from the President an honorary award that grants him the appointment of “Orgullo CETYS” reaffirming the support of the CETYS executive and teaching staff to continue his education at this university.
