Both Institutions held a panel: Artificial Intelligence and the future of higher education: navigating between opposition and acceptance

CETYS University and Minerva Project signed an agreement that seeks to revolutionize teaching and integrate the use of Artificial Intelligence in the Multi-Experiential Educational Model of CETYS and its iCampus. With this agreement, students will develop fundamental skills and abilities that will allow them to face current and increasingly demanding global challenges.

During the event, Dr. Fernando León García, President of the CETYS University System, explained that elements of the Minerva methodology will be gradually incorporated into the students’ curriculum, as well as into the evaluation, in addition to new theory, practical processes with AI which will lead to better prepared individuals.

“New generations are already familiar with AI elements. The challenge is for universities and academic staff to embrace the trend and provide greater support so that they emerge better prepared in their lives as professionals,” said León-García.

Ben Nelson, Founder and CEO of Minerva Project, commented on the importance of understanding that AI is a tool that must be learned and put into practice in order to train mental capacities. Although it can make recommendations, the decisions are still made by humans and that is where universities must be reinforced and adapted for this purpose.

CETYS is the first university in northwestern Mexico to adopt the innovative educational methodology of Minerva Project, which launched Minerva University a decade ago and is now recognized as the most innovative university in the world, according to the World’s Universities with Real Impact (WURI) 2024 ranking. Minerva is a leader in the development of disruptive educational methodologies that today form part of the academic model of prestigious global institutions such as the University of Berkeley, Yale University and the University of Tokyo, to name a few.

CETYS University already has valuable experiences that it offers through the iCampus, with the Minerva educational model, more dynamic and accessible study modalities will be offered, which is part of the hallmark of the Institution.

Following the signing, León García and Nelson, held the panel: “AI and the future of higher education: navigating between opposition and acceptance”. Faculty and staff from the different colleges and schools of the CETYS System were in attendance.
