Collaborating with Ocean Infinity, Marian Meza will set sail in international waters to maintain, repair, and maneuver remotely operated submarines suitable for exploring the ocean and facilitating the discovery of new species.

With a focus on learning more about the ocean and the application of engineering in marine robotics, Marian Meza, who graduated in Electronic Cybernetic Engineering from CETYS University, joined Ocean Infinity, a company based in the United States and the United Kingdom, as a Trainee ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle)/ RCC Pilot Technician.

Marian is a committed young woman from Mexicali and a member of the CETYS Alumni family who is passionate about innovation, creating valuable content, research, positive leadership, and paving the way for women in science. At 22, she excelled as the president of several student clubs, worked in the engineering industry, and won international awards in underwater robotics competitions.

As a student, she was part of Sentinel Fox Engineering, a robotics team at CETYS Mexicali Campus High School; while in college, she led the Seafox Inventive team, which builds a ROV prototype every year to participate in the MATE (Marine Advanced Technology Education) ROV International Competition hosted in the USA. This experience inspired Marian to focus on this area of knowledge.

The engineer explained that ROVs are vehicles controlled by a human operator that is not physically inside them. They can be operated by wireless signals or by a cable or line that connects the vehicle to the place where the human operator is located.

«I remember attending ROV prototype competitions with my university team. Looking back now, I am grateful for those experiences and the inspiration I found in my mentors to always go beyond the limits I knew. I believe that now working professionally in the marine robotics industry gives new meaning to the extracurricular experiences during my studies,» she said.

She added that much of her achievements are due to her family, who provided her with the necessary support to obtain a quality education and the encouragement to persist in search of her dreams. She also thanked her professors at the School of Engineering of the Mexicali Campus for their lessons, knowledge, and time invested in representative teams of the institution, as well as her fellow students, who were pillars for exploring and strengthening her skills for multidisciplinary teamwork, problem-solving, and organization.

«I believe that the tools that CETYS University provided me, starting in high school, laid the foundation for me to be able to change the world from my own field. I know that the comprehensive training model that CETYS offers is a turning point for its students when they graduate, and I am a testament to that,» she said.

Marian will undergo a training process consisting of workshops and simulator exams of real scenarios to perform in the position of Trainee ROV/ RCC Pilot Technician at the Texas and UK headquarters of Ocean Infinity before sailing to international waters.

The CETYS University graduate encouraged new generations to believe that opportunities exist, to explore beyond what is known, and to make the most of their time as students by participating in everything their institution offers. «In Mexico, quality talent is being trained to be capable of changing the world, from our country, in other latitudes, and even from the ocean,» concluded the engineer from Mexicali.
