CETYS University System became an international hub of higher education when more than 30 leaders from 14 countries took part in the «International Seminar on Innovation Higher Education «, as part of the university’s 55th Anniversary celebrations.

This marks the first time an event of this magnitude is held in the Mexican institution. Countries such as the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Sweden, Finland, CzechRepublic, Austria, Spain, India, China, South Korea and Japan will be represented by presidents of leading universities and worldwide higher education organizations.

The two-day International Seminar consisted of eight panels of experts who discussed innovation in universities regarding: their mission; social responsibility; quality and accreditation; the role of students and universities; alternative educational models and technology; the impact of international and institutional partnerships; as well as leadership and governance in complex environments.

After the first panel, journalist and writer Andrés Oppenheimer served as keynote speaker, presenting: «The challenges of Latin America in the Age of Innovation», where he will share the keys to a change in innovation, his perception on the transformation of different countries, and how this can be implemented in other regions of the world.

«It is important to recognize and learn from initiatives elsewhere that have improved educational quality, in orderto providea socially responsible and globally competitive education. We must, together, teach students how to think, not what to think,” said President of CETYS University, Dr. Fernando Leon-Garcia.

Experts contributed their experience and expertise in a forum that raised awareness of how innovation is relevant in higher education, whilst sharing the necessary tools that students need to be competitive.

Through this seminar, CETYS University strengthens its commitment to the academic community and to society as a whole, opening up spaces for reflection that enriches the landscape of higher education in Mexico and the world.
