Los días 2 y 3 de febrero, el alumno de 1er. semestre en Ingeniería Industrial del CETYS, Luis Cervantes López, compitió en la Copa del Mundo Junior de Sable realizada en Phoenix, Arizona, donde se colocó en la posición 14 de un total de 56 participantes. El joven esgrimista participó al lado de los bajacalifornianos Moisés "Primo" Carrillo, Adrián Villaseñor, Adrián Acuña y Kevin Madrid, quienes lograron superar la barrera de pool; en tanto que Samantha Fernández, otra del selectivo, se quedó en el camino en esta fase.En la tabla de los 64, Luis Cervantes superó 15-12 al también mexicano Javier Hernández, originario de Querétaro. En la ronda 32, el alumno becado del CETYS continuó avanzando al derrotar 15-13 al estadounidense Calvin Liang, sin embargo finalizó su participación en la ronda de los 16 al perder el duelo con el argentino Pascual Di Tella por 8-15.
