CETYS University,\u00a0one of the top private universities in Mexico,\u00a0is partnering with National\u00a0University<\/a>, a leader in adult-learner education and creating market-relevant programs, to offer Mexican students\u00a0the chance to benefit from\u00a0National\u00a0University\u2019s faculty subject expertise in the specialty areas of sustainability management, autism education, and information technology.<\/p>\n

The agreement,\u00a0formalized at a June 1st ceremony in Baja California, is part of a wider effort to increase educational exchanges between the United States and Mexico, opening\u00a0the door for the\u00a0two private nonprofit institutions to develop certificate programs for CETYS students in the three subject areas that have been identified as growth areas for the U.S-Mexico border region. It will also explore\u00a0future areas of collaboration such as joint research projects, creating visiting professorships, and establishing possible dual degrees.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are partnering with National University so that in a very focused approach we can parlay in the strengths and synergies of both institutions so that we can offer in Baja California, to CETYS constituents, three specific Certificate Programs. What we hope is that through this partnership some areas that were not previously covered by our offering can now serve the cross border community more appropriately\u201d, – Dr. Fernando Leon-Garcia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Though the agreement will initially focus on CETYS students whose concentration of studies are in sustainability management, autism education, or information technology, courses will be open to any of CETYS\u2019 more than 7,000 students. Qualified CETYS students may receive a 33 percent reduction in tuition and fees as a result of the agreement.<\/p>\n

The new partnership is in line with President Barack Obama\u2019s 100,000 Strong in the America\u2019s initiative, which seeks to increase student mobility between the United States and the countries of the Western Hemisphere. It is also is consistent with Mexico\u2019s Proyecta 100,000 program that aims to send 100,000 Mexican students to the United States and to receive 50,000 US students in Mexico by 2018.<\/p>\n
