The Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies (USMEX) <\/strong>at the University of California San Diego (UCSD),<\/strong> in collaboration with CETYS Universidad, co-organized a panel discussion titled \u00abContinuity or Political Alternation? Mexico\u2019s 2024 Presidential Elections Series.\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The panel featured experts in politics from the binational Cali-Baja region and the international arena, including Javier Tello<\/strong>, political analyst in Mexico; Kate Bruhn,<\/strong> professor at UC Santa Barbara; Luis Carlos Ugalde<\/strong>, former president of the National Electoral Institute (INE, formerly IFE); Ciro Murayama,<\/strong> Visiting Fellow at USMEX; and Gast\u00f3n Luken-Garza<\/strong>, government affairs expert. The discussion was moderated by Katherine Camach<\/strong>o, Associate Director of USMEX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The welcoming remarks were delivered by Rafael Fern\u00e1ndez de Castro, Director of the USMEX Center, followed by Dr. Carlos H. Garc\u00eda-Alvarado, Director of Institutional Relations at the CETYS University System, representing CETYS President Dr. Fernando Le\u00f3n-Garc\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abI firmly believe that conversations like these should translate into tangible actions. The challenges we face, while not insurmountable, demand collective efforts from institutions, governments, and civil society to address them.\u00bb Dr. Garc\u00eda-Alvarado commented.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The panelists offered their insights into the upcoming elections, contextualizing this crucial dialogue within a broader global framework, seen through the lens of research and intellectual collaboration emblematic of these institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UCSD and CETYS University are institutions located on the Cali-Baja border, a unique vantage point that allows them to contribute to the discourse from binational and culturally diverse perspectives. This position allows for a nuanced appreciation of the intricacies of these issues from both sides of the border, fostering collaboration and cross-cultural understanding among nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
