As part of the work to link up with companies in the region, CETYS University developed a computer application using artificial intelligence for BerryMex, a berry producer with a presence in Baja California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This technological development aims to improve select processes of the Biological Farming Solutions (BFS) department, which oversees the inventory for the biological control of pests in the berries production at the San Quint\u00edn Valley.

The project consists of a mathematical model created by CETYS faculty through the design of an artificial neural network that generates forecasts and patterns of population growth of living organisms used in the biological control of pests. The preceding is in the context of organic farming practices, which eliminate chemical substances in strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project was developed by Dr. Josu\u00e9 Aar\u00f3n L\u00f3pez-Leyva, Professor-Researcher at CETYS University; Jes\u00fas Enrique Caldera-Soto, Eng, and Fernando Mart\u00ednez-Huasanche, MSc, from the BFS department; and Oscar Meza-Arballo, MEng, Organizational Development Manager of BerryMex.

On behalf of BerryMex, Oscar Meza spoke about the relevance of having strategic partners in the region that, sensitive to the agriculture sector needs, contribute to applied research and solution development that provide competitive advantages in the production of berries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u00abWe are convinced that the Academia-Industry collaboration allows us to develop more and better technology to satisfy our consumers and provide the means for greater prosperity for our employees and their communities,\u00bb said Meza-Arballo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Josu\u00e9 L\u00f3pez-Leyva emphasized the importance of applied research projects and technological development as advocacy elements for solving real problems in diverse sectors. In addition, he commented that AI contributes significantly to the resolution of projects as CETYS University has demonstrated using AI in the health, energy, economic, and entrepreneurship sector, and in this case, in the agriculture sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A meeting was held at the Ensenada International Campus to present the project findings. In attendance on behalf of BerryMex were Julio Rodr\u00edguez, Regional Director of Operations; Jes\u00fas Casas, Human Resources Director; Enrique Caldera, Organic Inputs Manager; Fernando Mart\u00ednez Huasanche, Persimilis Product Manager; Tadeo De la Cruz, Research and Development Manager; and Oscar Meza, Organizational Development Manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attending on behalf of CETYS University were Dr. Francisco V\u00e9lez-Torres, Dean of CETYS University International Campus in Ensenada; Dr. Josu\u00e9 L\u00f3pez-Leyva, professor and lead researcher and project developer; Dr. Isaac Azuz, Research Coordinator at Engineering College; Dr. Janeth Murillo, Dean of Business and Management School; Prof. Carlos Alem\u00e1n, Dean of Engineering College; Prof. Claudia Alfaro, Academic Affairs Coordinator \/ Project Management; and Ricardo Collins, Liaison Coordinator of the CETYS University Center for Wine Studies (CEVIT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this way, CETYS University reiterates once again its unwavering commitment to contribute to regional competitiveness through the technological development of companies.
